Main Responsibility
Responsibilities
- Using appropriate analytical techniques, and working within a busy team, conduct analyses and investigations to support Crown’s business, customers and project teams;
- Food and beverage analysis
- Contaminants/foreign body identification
- Food contact regulatory support
- Taint and odour investigations
- Other analytical investigations using either in-house or out-sourced resources
- Generation of accurate and reliable data using any of the following instruments;
- Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS)
- Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FTIR)
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrophotometry (ICP-OES)
- High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
- Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
- Insightful interpretation and formal reporting in a timely manner of technical data with clear conclusions and recommendations for further actions where appropriate
- Method development, continuous improvement, acting as technical expert
The Ideal Candidate
Required Experience
- Degree in Science (OR) Several years relevant experience in a similar role
- Demonstrated experience of (at least some of) the specified analytical techniques. Time as PhD student may be taken into account.
- General laboratory skills – wet chemistry, volumetric standards
- Use of analytical instruments which may include GC/MS, FTIR, GC, ICP-OES, HPLC and DSC
- Competent computing skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Commitment to safe-working requirements
- Autonomous and investigative approach to assigned tasks with excellent attention to detail and precision
- Good written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to write reports and present scientific data)
Desirable Experience
- Degree in analytical chemistry (OR) Degree in physical chemistry
- PhD in relevant subject
- Experience with polymers
- Experience with electrochemistry
- Working knowledge of at least four of the mentioned analytical instruments
- Understanding of the theory behind the analytical techniques
- Demonstrated ability to work in a busy laboratory
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to write comprehensive reports and present scientific data to customers)
- A second language
Package Description
Location: Wantage OX12 9BP
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000
Working hours: Monday to Friday : (9:00 – 17:00)
